A Field Trip to remember

The field trip of all field trips happens annually at Fort York Garrison a commons and this year’s event took place in early June.

Field Trip is Toronto’s downtown community music and arts festival and as soon as I saw Lennon & Maisy on this year’s lineup, I was sold. My sister and I bought a pair of tickets for Sunday and waited patiently for the day to arrive.

As with all outdoor festivals, the weather plays a huge role in the experience. Unfortunately, thunderstorms were in the forecast for Sunday, and right on schedule, a black rain cloud rolled quickly over the grounds around 2:30 p.m. The entire site was evacuated for safety reasons within minutes of the downpour.
For a few hours, we sat and paid close attention to social media as any changes to the festival would be announced there.

I want to commend the organizers for keeping festival goers in the loop and responding to all inquiries quickly and informatively. Gates re-opened around 5:30 p.m., but unfortunately, Lennon and Maisy’s set was cancelled.

The day completely turned around once the Stella sisters posted on Twitter that they would hold a meet and greet later on.

Not only did we get to meet the girls, but were treated to a personal set on the lawn with everyone else who showed up for the meet and greet.

Although they only played three songs, the day turned out better than I could have ever imagined. And now all I want is an orange velvet jacket.

See you next year, Field Trip!
